Tinubu Offers Condolences to Government and Families of Victims in Niger Fuel Tanker Explosion

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Niger State Government and the families affected by Sunday’s tragic fuel tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road in Niger State, which claimed the lives of 48 people and numerous livestock.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu pledged continued support for relief efforts aimed at assisting those impacted by the devastating incident.

The statement read in part: “President Bola Tinubu extends his deepest sympathies to the government and people of Niger State following the petrol tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road, which tragically took the lives of 48 individuals and livestock.

“Reports from the Niger Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirm that many others sustained injuries in the accident, which also involved a truck carrying cattle and passengers.”

President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and injured victims of the tragedy. He also extended his sympathies to the shop owners affected by the incident, offering prayers for the swift recovery of those injured.

Tinubu commended both federal and state emergency agencies for their quick and effective response. The statement added, “He also praised the compassionate Nigerians who rushed to the scene to assist the victims.”

The president reaffirmed his commitment to supporting ongoing relief efforts for those impacted by the tragedy.

He further directed relevant federal agencies in transportation and road infrastructure to intensify their efforts and collaborate with state governments to improve the safety and security of travelers and residents.
