Atiku Joins Calls for Probe into Alleged N3 Trillion Budget Padding

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Calls for Investigation into Alleged N3 Trillion Budget Padding

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has urged for a thorough investigation into allegations of N3 trillion padding in the 2024 budget. He criticized the Nigerian Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Abdul Ningi, whom he referred to as the whistle-blower in this case.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Atiku emphasized the importance of transparency in the nation’s annual planning and development, expressing concern over the lack of clarity surrounding the budget. He demanded an immediate probe into the allegations, stating that any deviation from serving the people’s interests would face staunch opposition.

Atiku highlighted the serious implications of budget padding on the nation’s economy, emphasizing that it exacerbates existing challenges such as poverty, insecurity, energy crises, and the cost of living. He called on the government to address these issues transparently and not dismiss the accusations lightly.

Referring to previous corruption scandals, Atiku underscored the need for accountability and transparency in public administration. He urged both the federal government and the National Assembly to fulfill their constitutional duties and prioritize good governance without tolerating corruption.

Atiku warned that failure to address these allegations would only deepen suspicions of government complicity in malpractice, emphasizing the importance of upholding transparency and due process in public affairs.
